Larry Rasmussen
Rasmussen is the Reinhold Niebuhr professor of social ethics at Union Seminary, New York, and a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manhattan. He presentlly resides in Santa Fe, N.M.
He is the author of:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Reality and Resistance (Westminster John Knox Press, rev. ed. 2005);
Earth Community, Earth Ethics (Orbis Books, 1998); and
Earth Habitat: Eco-Injustice and the Church’s Response (Augsburg Fortress, 2001).

Science, Ethics, & Religion Workshop:
“The Captivity of Science,” led by Larry Rasmussen
( A BELC Church-In-Society Event for the Los Alamos Community
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos is hosting this Workshop on April 19, 2008. Led by senior ELCA theologian and scholar Larry Rasmussen, vigorous panel discussions with other NM church leaders will follow each lecture. A catered lunch is included.

1000 Lecture: A Conversation with the Brothers Bonhoeffer. (L. Rasmussen)
Dietrich Bonhoeffer carried on a theology and science dialogue with his brother, Karl-Friedrich Bonhoeffer, a renowned physicist, during the years of the Third Reich. Both explored the moral questions linked to doing theology and science in the context of the Third Reich. This talk raises many issues which transcend the Bonhoeffers' context.

1315 Lecture: Embeddedness of Science in the Society (L. Rasmussen)
Discussion of science, ethics, and religion in our context: What is the social location of science and how does this affect it? A survey of four powerful factors (dualism, subjectivism, anthropocentrism, & productivism) sets the stage for response and discussion. An example will focus on response to the growing environmental crisis.
